Kathmandu is a dusty place. Streets made worse by the recent earthquakes are either being repaired or waiting for their turn. Piles of dirt, bricks, and concrete adorn most sidewalks and street corners. Walking from Kushagra’s place, just east of the Tribhuvan University, we walked to the Balkhu intersection to catch a bus. Riding in a bus is an experience within itself. People crowd in small buses while the payment guy hangs out the side waving down customers.
The bus brought us to the main transportation hub near RNAC in Kathmandu. We walked around looking for a currency exchange place and eventually ended up at Funky Budda Garden in the district of Thamel for a beer. Back at Kush’s place we stopped for dumplings and combined with the beer and jet lag I ended up napping for a few hours. I woke up around 6pm as neighbors generators kicked on. Power was down for a bit so we drank a beer and locked down our plans for the three weeks I’m in Nepal. As the power came on we caught a little of the Arsenal vs Leicester City game and ate more dumplings. Went to bed full of dumplings and super excited for the days ahead.
Day two is upon us and Kushagra and I are locking down trekking permits. Some exciting news – our friend Ally is joining us for the trek. We’re going to hang on a boat in Pokhara, walk the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek, and check out the rhinos and crocodiles in Sauraha.
